Aloha everyone!
My name is Bronwyn Almy, I’m a surfer passionate about the ocean, my community and writing to reach people! My goal in life is to love what I do, do good for the community, and do good for the Earth. After university, my plan is to go into the writing, editing and publishing industry of Surf Magazines.
I little bit about my background; I grew up in Orange County, California and have been lucky enough to live close to the water and participate in aquatic sports. I have a huge heart for our environment, mother nature is so precious! I want my kids and grandkids to be able enjoy the beach, the surf and the hikes that I am so lucky to experience. I try my best to set a good example for living and practicing sustainability, showing the importance for others to take care of the land and the oceans wherever they go.
I am currently in my third year at Hawai’i Pacific University majoring in Communications with a minor in Writing, as I love writing poetry, short stories and journalling. I’m passionate about working with people, volunteering, helping good causes, and spreading the aloha spirit every way I can.
I love to spend my time surfing, rock climbing, skateboarding and being outdoors enjoying the sun! I’m passionate about surfing- if I’m not in the water I’m at least watching others with binoculars or filming my friends riding waves. The crafty side of me enjoys drawing and making cards for my friends from magazine cutouts. Collecting flowers for leis, pressing flowers, making jewelry and creating art from plastic and shells on the beach are some of my favorite pass time activities!
I believe writing is the most influential way to communicate and share information to people in the community, so I want to do my part and share a good message to readers everywhere. I want to encourage the spread of positive and truthful media to anyone tuning in to read. The opportunity to write for Kalamalama this semester is so special, I am excited to write, learn and grow – let’s see what 2025 brings!
