A rainy day rant

When I think of Hawaii, I tend to think of a sunny paradise. It is not often that it rains in my experience of living in Hawaii. But when that storm comes through… it really comes through. We got notice that a storm was going to be coming early in the week. And when it does rain in Hawaii, it is usually a light drizzle and if it is more than that then there is bound to be somewhere on the island that has sun. But this past week it was grey skies everywhere on the island. Not only was it non-stop rain, but there were loud roars of thunder and quick flashes of lightning which is uncommon in my experience in Hawaii. But don’t fear, because even on a rainy week there is still so much to do on the island. Sure, you may not be spending your time getting that golden tan but that doesn’t mean you need to be stuck in your room for the whole week. However, I would not recommend mopeding around in this type of weather for obvious reasons. On Thursday night my practice was cancelled because of the rain so I decided to go to a nice little dinner at Monkeypod, a restaurant right on the water in Waikiki. The vibes were immaculate. There was great live music while the sound of rain was hitting the ocean water combined with the waves crashing down. I can’t even remember what the food tasted like because I was so in awe of my surroundings which I don’t know if that is a good thing or not. After dinner, I went to A Pig and A Lady which is a restaurant in Chinatown; and I am not that big of a fan of their food but they have soft serve ice cream which has been very hard for me to find in Honolulu and the rain was light and again, the vibes were right. I don’t find myself in Chinatown often but when I am there I do always have a good time. The soft serve ice cream was nothing to brag about but beggars can’t be choosers and I was just happy to have found a place with soft serve.

When I was in my apartment, which is on the 33rd floor in downtown Honolulu, you couldn’t even see out of the window. It was so cloudy and misty and where there is usually a fantastic view… There were just clouds. But I still thought it was pretty cool to think that I was inside of the clouds. There has got to be a cool song that can come out of that. But Friday came and like history has shown 100% of the time, the sun rose. The clouds were gone and there was blue in the sky. And what comes after a big storm? A humid day. But I will take a humid day in Hawaii then any weather anywhere else.
