Earth Day at HOMA

Aloha all,

Do you love the Earth and want to celebrate its beauty with your community? The Honolulu Museum of Art is hosting a special family event in honor of Earth Day, spotlighting art and artists inspired by the natural world. Expect good vibes, great people, and fun activities you can enjoy solo or with friends and family!

When: Sunday, April 20, 2025
Time: 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Where: Honolulu Museum of Art – 900 S. Beretania St., Honolulu, HI 96814
Admission: Free and open to all ages — come and go as you please!

This is an amazing opportunity to connect with where we live through creativity and culture. At HoMA, you’ll get to experience the work of artist Satoru Abe, whose paintings and sculptures are inspired by rocks, roots, seed forms, and trees.

Highlights of the day include:

  • Pūpū painting and kūpeʻe krafting – Paint 3D-printed snail shells with malacologists from Bishop Museum and learn about Hawai‘i’s endangered land snails, which also inspired artist Hayv Kahraman and her powerful work.
  • Snail Exhibit – Meet scientists and conservationists from the Hawaiian Land Snail Conservation Program and learn about these tiny but significant creatures.
  • Art Talk – Dive into a conversation about how disruptive events can create space for new ways of thinking, being, and connecting.
  • Live Hula – From 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, Kumu Hula Mālia Ko‘i‘ulaokawaolehua Helelā and her hālau, Nā Hula Ola Aloha, will perform and lead interactive lessons.

Whether you’re into hands-on activities, enjoy observing and interpreting art, or want to explore the natural world through Hawaiian snails and storytelling, there’s something for everyone to enjoy—and it’s completely free!

That’s all for this week,
Bronwyn
