Hawaii Pacific University’s eSports Arena celebrates its five-year anniversary today at Aloha Tower Marketplace with a celebration from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.
When HPU opened the eSports Arena in 2017, it was the first facility of its type in the state of Hawaii. The arena includes modern gaming computers, virtual reality stations, next-generation consoles, casual seating and observation spaces, and a streaming booth are all included in the 3,000 square foot space. It is also open to the general public.
“The event will include food and beverages, a DJ, local vendor booths, open play on consoles, and ‘Valorant’ competitive gameplay by HPU’s varsity eSports team and by local high school students,” said HPU eSports team manager Jordan Oliver.
HPU students are also eligible for scholarships up to $6,000 for being a part of the university’s varsity intercollegiate eSports team, which competes against other colleges in games like “Valorant” and “League of Legends.”
“We are more than ever connected to the local eSports community,” said Oliver. “We host parties, corporate events, youth mentor programs, and recently, the Honolulu Chamber of Commerce.
“Our students are highly involved and passionate about eSports and the job opportunities that they have – not only once they graduate, but now, while they’re in college.”
The HPU eSports Arena is open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays. Contact them at 808-544-0857 or email esports@hpu.edu.
