Our Tennis Trip to California: Battling Through Tough Conditions

Our last tennis trip to California was not at all convenient. The weather was very unfriendly to us as it was cold and rainy and we played almost every match in the rain. However, our team displayed courage and spirit and fought to the end, even against some of the best teams in the country.

A Rough Start in San Diego
We started our trip with a game against Point Loma. It was not a good start as we were defeated. Then, things got worse for me as I twisted my ankle during the game, which prevented me from playing for the rest of the trip. It was rather disappointing to be out for the entire trip very early, but there was nothing I could do but cheer for the team from the bench.

Facing the Nation’s Best From San Diego
Next, we traveled to Los Angeles to play two of the ten best teams in the country. There were tough fights in both matches, but we lost them. But we did show that we belong in that company. We were right there, right up to the final wire, and those matches offered a flavor of what we were capable of.

Attending ATP Tournament in Indian Wells and Getting First Win
A major highlight of the trip was attending a professional tennis tournament and watching the world’s best players in action. It was a privilege to stand on the sidelines and watch them up close and personal and to be inspired by their greatness. Then, we headed to Santa Barbara to play at Westmont College. Despite the challenges and the injuries, our team did well, worked hard, and got our first win of the trip. It was a good feeling to see everyone struggle and prevail as a team.

A Strong Finish in LA and Exploring Hollywood
Back in Los Angeles, we wrapped up the trip with a crucial 4-3 victory over Biola University. This win not only boosted our confidence but also put us in a solid position for seeding at the PacWest Conference Championship. It was a rewarding way to end the competitive portion of the trip. Before heading home, we took some time to explore LA, visiting the Hollywood Sign and the Walk of Fame. After a tough week of matches, it was great to experience some of the city’s most iconic sights.

While this trip wasn’t our best in terms of results, we walked away knowing that we could compete at the highest level. The challenges we faced only made us stronger, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.

We’re back home and ready to fight! Come support us next Friday in Kailua as we take on UH Hilo! It’s going to be a great match, and we’d love to have as many fans as possible cheering us on. See you there!
