On November 14th from 6 to 9 pm, students at Hawai‘i Pacific University will host a masquerade ball at the Sunset Ballroom in Aloha Tower Marketplace. The event, organized by the students from the “Event Planning and Management” course, promises to provide a formal and memorable evening for HPU students.
“A masquerade ball felt like the perfect way to combine formality, fun, and a bit of mystery,” said Dahlia-Girvin, one three event managers. “We want to make this night unforgettable.”
Encourages to RSVP
The ball will feature live music from the stage. The event manager also reveals that her Norwegian boyfriend may be paying a visit to DJ. “It’s not set in stone, but I think it should be fun for all the Norwegian students,” she shared.
The event is free for all students, with 200 tickets available, though Girvin-Smith urges students to RSVP quickly.
Relevant Beyond the Classroom
Three weeks before the event, Girvin-Smith confirms they are on schedule despite a tight budget. “The school gave us $250 to work with, which has been challenging. But it has also been a good thing, because we have learnt a lot,” she said.
“The budget is really low. It has been a challenge, but at the same time, I think it’s a good thing. We learn a lot,” the event manager says.
Instructor Jason Genegabus informed to the newspaper that the class is funded by money budgeted by the College of Letters Arts and Sciences. “Classes like these are vital to providing HPU students with real-world opportunities to apply what they’ve learned in class.”
Girvin-Smith echoed the sentiment, pointing out how teamwork and problem-solving are key skills they’re practicing in preparation for the event.
Connecting As A School and Community
When asked why students should attend the ball, Girvin-Smith promised a “unique once-in-a-lifetime college-experience.” She hopes the event will foster excitement, encouraging students to share their enthusiasm on social media.
“We wanted to create an event that allows students to express themselves creatively while offering something different from the usual social gatherings,” Girvin-Smith explained.
With awards for “Best Mask” and “Best Dressed,” students are encouraged to dress up and embrace the formal, mysterious atmosphere. As the excitement builds, Girvin-Smith hopes the event will bring the HPU community closer while showcasing the possibilities of student-led initiatives.
Well done! So excited !! ☾
