Hands raised in the air as rain started pouring down. The crowd, thankful for refreshment coming from the clouds above, danced as they collectively shouted “blame it on the alcohol” at Grammy Award-winning recording artist T-Pain as he sang his hit song, “Blame It,” from 2009.
On Aug. 27, the rapper performed a show that can be summarized as a giant throwback to the late 2000s. Opened by not one, but three different DJs, they played every song someone would expect of a Y2K party.
T-Pain introduced himself, then started performing hit song after hit song right away. The party started with his feature verse on the hit, “Low,” by Flo Rida. No matter the age, everyone at the concert was able so sing along while showing off their best dance moves.
The mood kept rising with “Bartender” and Ye’s “Good Life.” Most HPU students, only being little kids at the time these songs have been released, are nevertheless able to sing along to them. Older students were immediately thrown back into their teenage years, vibing to the auto-tuned music.
Since HPU students could attend the concert for free, an evening of dancing in the rain, listening to T-Pain perform and eating free pizza handed out unfolded as a perfect way to welcome the new semester at HPU.
