When you search for „best things to do in Hawaii“ on your phone, you will find many activities, such as hiking Diamond Head or going to Waikiki Beach. However, if you decide to visit all these „famous“ places, you will be shocked by how many people are there. That is why you should read the next five points to see that there are other beautiful places that you can visit and enjoy even more without meeting thousands of people.
1. Lulumahu Falls
Lulumahu Falls is a beautiful 50-foot waterfall located in the deep forests of Hawaii and is one of the best hikes I have taken since moving here! The trail is approximately 2 miles round trip and it will lead you through a variety of environments, including areas filled with bamboo, large rocks, and small streams, as well as muddy terrain. It is not an official trail and thus there are no signs to lead the way, but that just makes it more exciting! You begin near the Nuʻuanu Reservoir and then walk along an old irrigation system to get to the falls, which look like they belong in a jungle movie. The hike can be quite slippery, especially if it has rained recently, and it is, therefore, crucial to wear the right shoes for the terrain, you might have to wade through some water during the hike. Even though it is technically private property, a lot of people still visit the place and it is easy to see why: it is one of the most beautiful and refreshing places to visit in Oahu.
2. Makua Beach
Without a doubt, Makua Beach is one of the most stunning and calm places that I have found on Oahu! It is on the west coast of the island, so it is not crowded with tourists, which gives it a feel of a secret paradise. The beach has gentle golden sand, clear water, and a beautiful sight of the Waianae Mountains. The waves are usually strong, particularly in the winter so it is not well suited for swimming, but it is good for sitting on the beach, body boarding or just hanging out. The sunset there is simply mind-blowing! There are no facilities so you must remember to bring your food and drinks. If you are looking for a more quiet, less touristy beach experience, then look no further than Makua Beach.
3. Kaneohe Sandbar
Another place that I fell in love with is Kaneohe Sandbar! This beautiful place is located on the way to Kualoa Ranch and you will need either a boat or kayak. There are a lot of places around where you can rent a kayak and it takes about 30 minutes of paddling to get there. Once you are there, you can get off the kayak and the water is just up to your hips although you are in the middle of the ocean. And the view is just incredible! You feel like you just got into the Jurassic Park movie because all you can see around is just beautiful mountains and water. People usually bring some drinks and snacks, play some music and have a good time. This is a go-to place if you are planning to visit the island of Oahu.
4. Moku Nui Island
Since I like to combine activities that include both relaxation and workout I enjoyed the trip to Moku Nui Island. This little island is located by Lanikai Beach and again, you will need to rent a kayak and paddle there. If you get lucky, you will see some turtles on the way there as well as I did last time! Once you get there, you can chill on the beach get a drink, and watch the monk seals that Relax on the beach very often! Just be careful and keep your distance from them because they can be dangerous and try to attack you if you get too close! Be Pono!
These are the 4 top locations that you must see if you come to visit the island of Oahu! So put them on your „to-do list“ and book your trip to Hawaii today!
