HPU’s career development center debuted a new program, called HPU Connect, on Wednesday. The program lasts five weeks and will wrap up with a career fair at Aloha Tower Marketplace on March 1.
HPU Connect is intended to fulfill the needs of the varied student body at the university and offer career and internship advice to its students as they start their post-college careers.
After a series of careers and internships workshops, the program will end with an event featuring up to 30 firms in the atrium of Aloha Tower Marketplace. This free job-focused program is open to HPU students from all academic disciplines and majors. Students will network with recruiters at the Career Fair to find careers, internships, or part-time jobs.
“HPU’s undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs prioritize the development of critical thinking, communication, information literacy, and creative mastery,” said Joseph Barnett, HPU manager of the Center for Academic Success. “Our students and graduates are well-prepared to contribute these in-demand competencies to our local communities through many different career pathways. We are excited to connect HPU students with major companies and employers for some of the best job opportunities in Hawaii.”
The free workshops cover career competencies, transferable skills, help with resumes and cover letters, interview techniques, role-playing, connecting majors to careers, elevator pitches, and how to dress for success.
Up to 30 employers from Oahu will be at the free career and internship event, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Northwestern Mutual, Hawaiian Airlines, Alohilani Resort, and Marriott Hotels. Other employers include the State of Hawaii Judiciary and the U.S. Secret Service.
