Hawaii Pacific University will host a special tailgate event at 3:30 p.m. today at The Shark Tank in Manoa Valley.
Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams will face off against Holy Names University. The women’s game starts at 4:30 p.m., with HPU faculty and staff squaring off in a halftime exhibition during both games.
Next, the men’s game will start at 6:30 p.m., with another faculty and staff matchup at halftime.
“Only the top six teams in the conference make it to the conference championship,” said HPU basketball team manager Zackary Villa. “We had a slump in the middle of the season, so we have to win a majority of our last six games to have a chance.”
During halftime of both games, HPU president John Gotanda will facilitate ceremonial tip-offs, while provost Jennifer Walsh and registrar David Barrowclough will serve as celebrity co-coaches for Team Kuleana.
Also, Director of security Chris Martin and School of Education professor Roger Kiyomura will be the co-coaches for Team Pono, and former HPU chaplain and professor Dale Burke will serve as referee.
HPU alumni are invited to come early and visit a special VIP room for those 21-and-over, where there will be complimentary drinks and coaches will be on hand to answer questions.
Fans will also be able to take part in fun games and enjoy food from participating food trucks.
The Shark Tank is located at 2707 Pamoa Road.
