This April, the Hawaii Convention center will be hosting Kawaii Kon 2023. The event is a 3-day convention that celebrates Japanese anime (animated shows), manga (graphic novels), video games, and many other facets of Japanese culture.
The convention will run from Friday, Math 31, to Sunday, April 2. Registration will run from 9a.m. to 9 p.m. with early registration on Thursday, March 30, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
There will be a variety of events and booths to see throughout the weekend. All three days will showcase an artist alley, where you can find handcrafted, original pieces made by the vendors or you can check out the dealers room and get licensed merchandise from all your favorite anime.
On certain days they will host other special events such as a cosplay contest, ask an anime character, karaoke competition and a variety of different panels. There will also be a variety of guests at the convention, from Kpop stars to voice actors, who will be participating in panels, attending events, and giving out autographs.
For those looking to relax for a bit, you can check out the manga library, where they have a wide variety of manga to choose from. While you’re there, you can also check out the cosplay cafe where you can unwind with some refreshments, served by people dressed as popular characters.
For some more intense fun, you can test your skills in their esports arena. They have tournaments in games such as League of Legends or Smash Bros and if you would rather a more relaxed gaming experience, they have casual gaming with arcade machines and retro games.
You can currently buy your three day pass online for $75. You can also purchase tickets at the door. $65 for a two day pass, $45 for Friday only, $50 for Saturday only and $42 for Sunday only. Children under 10 get in free with a paid adult membership and all attendees under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. An I.D. must be shown in order to pick up your tickets.
