Stilettos, satin and suits came one after another at the ballroom in Aloha Tower Marketplace Thursday evening, showcasing an array of dazzling outfits. While some attendees chose to wear items they already owned, many scoured Honolulu’s thrift shops to find the perfect look.
A Masquerade Bride
Among them was Evelina Blomqvist who told Kalamalama that her dress is “thrifted just right up the street” at The Salvation Army. She added a personal touch by crafting her own mask and pairing the ensemble with shoes from Savers.
«I feel like a bride, but that’s okay. It was good for both the environment and wallet!» she quipped.
Like A Million Dollars
Another thrift enthusiast, Silje Skauge, found her stunning silk dress at Goodwill for just $11. “I never expected this! I’ve never worn a dress this beautiful,” she admitted while naming the dress the prettiest one she’s ever owned.
All Black
Attending a ball doesn’t particurarly mean that you have to wear traditional formalwear, like a tuxedo. Entertainment Manager Yusuf Najjar chose a sparkling hat and pearls complementing his all black outfit.
Best Dressed
The coveted “Best Dressed” award went to Jenna Bond, who thrifted her dress in Japan. She was accompanied by her date Shayden on the ball Thursday.
The Lady in Red
As guests arrived, Guest Services Manager Linda Morlandstø greeted everyone with a warm smile. Therefore, everyone got a glimpse of her red satin dress, purchased especially for the event, paired perfectly with shoes from Savers.
Marilyn With Friends
Coincidence or not, a group of friends managed to show up in complementary outfits. Larry Pascual, Karlie Gutierrez, Bianca Bunnell and Sophia Lorez revealed their matching looks were a last-minute decision.
“I´m wearing Gucci today,” joked Bunnell, channeling Marilyn Monroe vibes with a fur wrap draped over her shoulders.
Back to Black
“All Black” seemed to be a recurring theme among the attendees. Here you see Yuuki Kubo’s choice of black attire.
Emilie Fyhn and Maiken Vadseth agreed with Kubo’s choice of color, matching perfectly at the night’s event.
Brought Scandinavia to America
Lastly, “Exit-door-guard” Dennis Tønseth chose to bring a Stockholm-inspired look, which he described as comfortable and fitting for the occasion. “As an exchange student, I didn’t want to buy a suit for just one night,” he explained.
